Immigrants might be getting a new voice
Former Vice President Kamala Harris has sharply criticized Trump’s administration for what she described as a “wholesale abandonment” of America’s ideals. Harris delivered a powerful speech in San Francisco, marking her return to the political stage after losing the 2024 presidential election to Donald Trump.
Speaking at the 20th anniversary gala for Emerge America, an organisation dedicated to empowering Democratic women to run for office, Harris had some tough words for Trump.
Harris highlighted the calculated nature of Trump’s policies, which she argued were designed to slash public education, shrink government, and privatize services—all while benefiting the wealthiest Americans.
She warned against viewing the administration’s actions as mere chaos, emphasizing that they represent a long-standing agenda to reshape the nation
In her speech, Harris also addressed the fear and anxiety gripping many Americans, urging them to resist despair. She praised the courage of those standing up against the administration’s tactics, stating, “Fear isn’t the only thing that’s contagious. Courage is contagious”
Her remarks resonated with the audience, as she called for unity and resilience in facing challenges.
Harris echoed the concern of immigrants and aspiring U.S citizens, stating that: “The country doesn’t belong to anyone in the White House. The country belongs to we, the people. It’s not OK to detain or disappear any American or, indeed, anyone without due process.”
Harris’s return to the spotlight has sparked speculation about her political future, with some suggesting she may run for California governor in 2026 or even make another bid for the presidency in 2028. Her speech served as a rallying cry for Democrats seeking a path forward after their recent electoral defeat.
